U13 team qualifies for U14 Regional League (2017/18)

Many congratulations to our U13 team who played in the U14 Regional qualifying tournament this weekend and qualified in 7th place in a very tightly fought tournament.

The list of teams we were set to play was daunting with some very good teams in our group who had come high up in the U13 regional league last year. The girls were going to have to play their very best netball.

Eagle U14 at Rushmoor

We headed off to the Rushmoor tournament early Saturday morning to compete in the U16’s category to challenge ourselves before the Nationals.

We got off to a great start in our first game beating Wokingham 14-0. We greatly appreciated the extra support from the parents and players from the younger years with their Mexican wave in the stand !

Next up was Weston Park Blades where we won convincingly 11-3 although the score did not reflect how hard we had to fight to win. We were really pleased with the result. Next match was against Royals, we knew this would be a tough match. We all played really hard and were determined not to give up our early lead. Final score was 8-6. Great Result.

We went on to win all of our remaining matches to top the group and win the U16’s category. The matches were a great opportunity to put into practice our new skills and coaching. It was also great to have Anna and Libby, fresh from their success at the U16 Nationals, with us bringing their experience and strong play.

Special thanks to Lisa for stepping in as coach for the day.

A massive well done to all the girls .. we went for experience and a challenge, not really to win but had a great result as everyone was outstanding.

Nationals – here we come !

Eagles U14 v Team Matrix

Today we had our last match against Matrix at home where we were looking forward to a tough match against the 2nd team in our division.

We had a slow first quarter where matrix took a quick lead with their determination to beat us but the team managed to fight back and end the first quarter 12-11 to Eagles.

In the 2nd quarter we had some fresh legs. Our strong determined defence managed to intercept and put a lot of pressure onto Matrix. Alongside our quick attack we managed to widen our lead. There were some great feeding into the circle and brilliant shooting. At the end of half time Eagles led 29-22.

We had an amazing 3rd quarter with Matrix only scoring half the number of our goals. Eagles kept up the pace and pressure into the 4th securing a 58-45 win.

It was a great win for the team and means we finish top of the U14 South Regional League. Well Played to all the girls who played in this match and all of the games that helped us get through to the Nationals. It’s an amazing achievement, we should all be proud of ourselves.  Player of the match deservedly goes to Libby for her brilliant shooting and dominant play. We all cannot wait for tournament season and then nationals, here we come !!

Eagles U14 v Woodley

Our penultimate league match of the season was away against Woodley. We were anticipating a tough match as a defeat for Woodley could end their qualification hopes to the National Finals.

It was a pacey start to the game with Woodley coming out strong and eager to give us a good game. The team worked hard, took control and established a comfortable early lead finishing the first quarter 8-18.

Woodley kept the pressure on and came back hard after the break. Due to a number of unforced errors and injuries disrupting play, the second quarter was scrappy and we lost control and composure at times.

Heading into the second half of the game with a 12 goal advantage, Eagles continued to show great teamwork in the circle defence. Mid court maintained the pressure and fought hard. A great team effort across all areas of the court proved dominant. Woodley shooters performed well making many long range shots but this wasn’t enough to stop us extending our lead.

After a physical final quarter and a valiant effort by Woodley, we came away with a solid win and a final score of 32-58. Today’s win not only means we will finish top of the league this season but have also secured our place at the National Finals. Well done team. #thesegirlscan

We are very much looking forward to our last league game next week against Team Matrix.

Congratulations to Maisie who was deservedly voted Player of the Match.
