Most of the girls are Berkshire County players and many have come through the ranks of Eagles having joined aged seven or eight. Some have progressed to regional standard and England National Academy

Head coach Maria D’Amaro said she was proud that Maidenhead was home to some of the best young netball talent in the country.

“All the players at the club – from the seven-year-olds to seniors – have worked incredibly hard this season," she said.

"For our two teams to qualify for nationals is a huge achievement for a small club coached and organised completely by volunteers."

“Hundreds of clubs started on the road to nationals in September and to be in the finals shows the quality of our play."

"These girls work really hard at elite performance levels but they are also great friends who work for each other."

She added: "The finals will be another step up and the biggest challenge they have faced but we are looking forward to competing against the best in the country.”

"The future looks really bright for quality netball in Maidenhead when we are able to develop quality coaches as well as players.”

The under-16s will head to their finals at Redbridge Leisure Centre, Essex on 4th and 5th May 2019. While the under-14s will be going to The University of Worcester Arena on 25th & 26th May 2019.

Eagles U16’s take Silver at National Club Finals.

On Friday 3rd of May, Eagles U16s found themselves travelling to Redbridge in Essex to participate in the England Netball U16 National Club Finals.  After a roller coaster of a season and a nail biting must win game against MK Dons as the final game of the season, Eagles succeeded in guaranteeing their place at the finals by placing second in the South Region U16 Div 1 league.

The National Club Finals is a competition that takes place over two days and sees the best 18 teams in the Country battling it out to be crowned overall Champions.  On the morning of day one, Eagles found themselves playing off against Telstars and Grangetown.  Finding the form that that the squad had been striving for all season, Eagles started strong winning 36-23 and 29-14 respectively.

The afternoon saw the team build on their earlier performance winning 35-26 against Turnford and 38-15 against Lincoln City; ensuring themselves a place in the top 6 playoffs.  After a tough day of games Eagles returned to their hotel for some much needed R&R, ice baths followed by a swim, some serious carb and protein loading and an early night in preparation for the task ahead the next day.

Day two dawned bright and early and found Eagles playing off in a difficult pool against Charnwood Rutland (eventual 3rd place winners) and Hucclecote.  Their resilience, drive and determination saw them continue the form of the previous day winning 28 – 24 and 26-14 respectively.  As a result of these two great wins Eagles were delighted to find themselves in the Final against an extremely strong Oldham team.

After a strong start Eagles managed to get turnover ball and took the initial lead by three points.  However, the well drilled Oldham fought back hard and the first quarter ended 7- 10 to Oldham.  The second quarter saw Oldham build on their performance resulting in a 6 goal lead by half time at 20-14.  Eagles dug deep and continued to strive for the performance that had been so successful for them over the weekend and the game swung back and forth, at one point there was only 2 goals between the two teams.  The third quarter ended with a slightly narrower margin with Oldham taking the quarter 25-20.   The last quarter, unfortunately for Eagles, saw Oldham pull away and the final result was Oldham 37 Eagles 24.

Despite the loss Eagles were absolutely thrilled to be the National Club runners up taking home the Silver medal.  The performance of the girls over the weekend took their efforts to a whole new level of brilliance and some truly outstanding netball was played throughout the course of the weekend.  The team gelled as a squad and the play just flowed.  There was excellent defensive teamwork, great communication with super through court play and superb work in and around the shooting circle with excellent shooting statistics from all the shooters.  Every player gave their all and made their performance count on court.

The Coaches, parents and supporters were immensely proud of the girls hard work and this amazing achievement.  Special thanks should go to Anna Blundell and her family, along with many of the U14 Eagles squad and Neil Day who travelled to support the team. The players thanks go to their coaches, Carly Reeve, Maria D’Amaro and Lisa Wayman for all the support, coaching and guidance they have given to the girls.  Team work makes the dream work.
