The squad travelled to High Wycombe for a relatively local derby with Clan Netball Club.

The team knew it was going to be a highly contested game given we had only narrowly snatched victory in the reverse fixture (47-45).

The squad had to deal with a late re-shuffle in the defensive line up due to illness but that didn’t stop the team from starting at a high intensity and making some crucial turnovers early on.

Defensive pressure from Farah, Amber and Suse led to a four goal advantage to Eagles midway through the quarter. Some spot on shooting from youngsters Jemma and Libby under pressure kept the marginal advantage going into the break with Eagles leading 15-11.

A couple of tweaks to the line up for the second quarter didn’t affect the intensity and the team continued to apply pressure through their defensive efforts and a number of turnovers from GA Jemma and GD Carys kept the momentum in Eagles’ favour.

WA Summer and C Jas continued to find GS Libby with some accurate feeds and she was able to convert under immense pressure extending the lead. WD Amber, GD Carys and GK Farah continued to apply pressure to Clan’s attack and won several turnovers. The score at half time was 33-19 to Eagles.

GA Sarah entered the game to add fresh legs to the team, some great feeds under pressure and some strong holding from Libby kept the scoreboard ticking. Further crucial interceptions from GD Carys and tight man on defence from the rest of the team forced Clan into some unforced errors. However a quick few goals from Clan brought the score back to 44-29 going into the last quarter.

Eagles refocused and set themselves some targets. They knew they wanted to finish the game strongly and they did just that, a great team display of defence and attack with some on point shooting resulted in the game finishing 59-42 to Eagles.

A big five points earned to keep the pressure on the top two teams and player of the match went to a deserving Carys Willimott

A fantastic display from all of the squad; Farah Wayman, Carys Willimott, Amber Bains, Susanna D’Amaro Johnston, Jas Nightingale, Summer Knight, Jemma Nightingale, Sarah Anderson and Libby Burgess.
