Having had the beast from the East to contend with over the last few days affecting training and everyday living, Eagles 2 were able to head to Portsmouth through the big thaw.

The younger members of the team were excited to find out that morning that they would be playing alongside one of their idols Sophia Candappa, making her debut appearance for the team.

Our match today against Meon was very highly contested, but we played at a steady pace as our aim for the match was to try not to make too many errors on the court. We ended up the first quarter in the lead 14-10.

We kept up the intensity and reset play when we needed to, which was another of our aims today and despite Meon coming back stronger in the 2nd quarter, we increased our lead to 34-22.

With a few changes at halftime and some fresh feet on court, Eagles intensified their play. Sophia C was able to guide the younger players to position themselves better and enable a dominance on court.

Some great interceptions were made throughout the court which made our lead increase to 53-30 at the end of ¾ time.

The atmosphere from the sideline was encouraging for the Eagles team. The coaches were able to perform their instructions with ease today as what had been practised at training previously was at times being replicated. Making Happy Coaches- Carly Reeve, Maria D’Amaro and (Lisa Wayman, from the Texts).

Eagles worked hard right to the final whistle as they were determined to finish the game well. The defensive combination denied Meon many chances to shoot, turnovers were being made up and down the court and the shooting was accurate by Eagles.

Well done to Meon who fought to the end. The final score being 71-36.

Player of the match was GS Libby Burgess.
