Final Score: Eagles 53 v Finch 4 (W)
The first match of the season and hopes were high. Neil’s expectations were clear from the start. The girls were expected to win and win well!
So the game began. Finch took the first centre pass but our girls quickly intercepted and the ball was straight down to Marta in the circle to score. 1-0 and we were off. Some great passing and interceptions from Annabel, Izzy, Charlotte Y and Dane meant we dominated the 1st quarter. Marta and Charlotte C put in goal after goal to end the quarter 16-0.
After a change in some positions and players for both teams at the start of the 2nd quarter, Finch put up more of a fight. Our defence was finding they had more to do. Keira, Eden and Ruby worked hard to ensure the bulk of the possession remained with us. More strong shooting this time from Amelie and Charlotte C and the quarter ended 25-1.
A bit of tiredness was creeping in at the start of Q3, not helped by a very hot gym, which led to some silly errors on both sides but Priya, Charlotte Y and Ruby worked hard to keep the ball at our end. The quarter ended 36-1.
Despite being well ahead the girls lost none of their focus and determination in the final quarter. They remained set on fighting for every ball and increasing the score. Finch were fighting back hard and managed to get 3 in the net but our girls triumphed with Marta and Amelie putting in another 17 to end the match 53-4.
An awesome performance from all the girls and a real team effort. What a great way to start the season. Well done girls.
